Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are placed over teeth to improve your smile. Veneers are generally a cosmetic treatment – if done well, they are a very quick way of achieving a perfect smile.
They are a great option for covering up discolouration of teeth, or if you don’t like the shape or colour of your teeth. Depending on your specific smile, we can also change the position of the teeth if they’re a little crooked. However, if colour is the only thing you’re worried about, tooth whitening may also be an option for you to consider – see our Teeth Whitening page.

Veneers don’t involve removing as much tooth as a crown – instead of covering the whole tooth, they are just a thin ‘veneer’ over the front and tips of the teeth.
We may recommend a crown if we’re worried about the strength of the tooth, but for cosmetic-only reasons veneers are less invasive for most people – the best way to find out which option is best for you is to speak to your dentist.
Generally, porcelain veneers will look better due to the material and age better over time as they are less likely to stain or chip, as they are made in a lab rather than in your mouth. Sometimes, composite resin veneers may be a better option for you, for a number of reasons – book a consult with one of our friendly dentists to have a chat about which option is right for you.
For porcelain veneers, they involve a “preparation” appointment where we prepare the teeth and take some impressions for the lab, and then another appointment to cement the veneers after the dental laboratory’s ceramist has designed and created your veneers.
Composite resin veneers are all done in one appointment as this does not involve a dental lab.
If you have a tooth that has turned grey or discoloured after root canal therapy, “internal tooth bleaching” is a powerful way to improve the colour of your tooth without removing more tooth – if you think this might be the option for you, call us to book a consult and we can discuss if it’s right for you.
